The obverse features the Statue of Liberty with a geared background representing innovation and the reverse displays rotating designs honoring innovations and innovators from each state and territory. This coin honors astronomer Annie Jump Cannon, whose invention of a stellar classification system still used today cataloged nearly 350,000 stars and transformed astrophysics.
