Description
The 2017 (S) George Rogers Clark Quarter - Enhanced Uncirculated is an enhanced uncirculated quarter struck at the San Francisco Mint, part of the America the Beautiful Quarters 2010-2021 series. The U.S. Mint produced 223,310 examples, making this the lowest mintage among 30 mint variants, representing only less than 1% of total production. The obverse features George Washington facing left, based on a 1786 bust by Jean-Antoine Houdon and the reverse displays unique designs featuring national parks and sites from each state and territory. The reverse depicts Colonel Clark and his frontiersmen wading through flooded bottomlands approaching Fort Sackville. The 1779 capture of Fort Sackville was a daring campaign that secured the Northwest Territory for the young United States. Effigy Mounds (IA), Frederick Douglass (DC), Ozark Riverways (MO), Ellis Island (NJ), and George Rogers Clark (IN) were honored. Frederick Douglass was the first non-site coin, honoring the abolitionist at his Washington D.C. historic site. This enhanced uncirculated coin features multiple finish techniques applied to different areas of the design, combining proof, frosted, and standard finishes to create a unique multi-textured appearance. Struck at the San Francisco Mint, established during the California Gold Rush and now primarily producing proof and collector coins. Struck in 75% copper, 25% nickel over a pure copper center, weighing 5.67 grams, 24.3 mm in diameter, with a reeded edge. Cataloged as PCGS #631103.
