Description

SKH-1c-2016D-01 is a spiked head from the 2016 Denver Mint Lincoln Shield Cent. Each working die strikes tens of thousands of coins before retirement, and when a facility produces billions of cents in a calendar year, several independent portrait-area cracks can develop across different dies. The 2016-D cent continues the Lincoln Shield reverse design introduced in 2010, and the obverse portrait—the same Victor David Brenner design used since 1909, with minor modifications over the decades—remains the canvas on which spiked head cracks manifest.
