Description
The 2014 (P) Great Sand Dunes National Park 5 oz Silver Quarter is a quarter produced at the Philadelphia Mint as part of the 5 oz. America the Beautiful Silver Quarters 2010 to Date series. With a mintage of 22,000, this is a scarce issue — the lowest mintage among 5 mint variants, representing only 16% of total production. The obverse features George Washington facing left, based on a 1786 bust by Jean-Antoine Houdon and the reverse displays unique designs featuring national parks and sites — struck in 5 ounces of .999 fine silver at a massive 76.2mm diameter. The reverse depicts a father and son near a creek bed with sand dunes and the Sangre de Cristo Mountains behind. Great Sand Dunes contains the tallest sand dunes in North America, reaching heights of over 750 feet. A modern issue from an era of rotating coin designs, collector-focused programs, and renewed interest in numismatic artistry. Struck at the original U.S. Mint facility, in continuous operation since 1792. Estimated market value is approximately $113.
