Description

First documented rim cud for the 2014 Philadelphia Everglades National Park Quarter, CU-25c-2014P-01(EV) preserves a raised, featureless area at the coin's edge created when a die section fractured and detached during production. The Everglades Quarter was the final 2014 America the Beautiful issue, featuring a reverse depicting an anhinga spreading its wings amid subtropical wetlands. As the inaugural cud cataloged for this issue, the 01 sequence number confirms it was the first rim die break documented by Cuds on Coins researchers. Rim cuds on ATB Quarters are especially collectible because each of the program's fifty-six unique reverse designs creates a one-time die break context: the design elements adjacent to the cud location vary by park, making each ATB cud visually distinct. The Everglades design's detailed natural imagery means any rim break potentially obliterates a unique portion of the wetland scene not found on any other quarter issue. Cataloged by Cuds on Coins, this variety documents the structural limits encountered during high-volume production of the final 2014 ATB release.
