Description

This two-ounce gold Washington Diplomatic Medal, produced circa 2013, is the largest and most precious version of the modern restrike series. At two troy ounces of gold, this medal carries substantial precious metal value in addition to its numismatic significance. The Washington Diplomatic Medal design originated in 1792 as one of the first official products of the United States Mint, created under the direction of Secretary of State Thomas Jefferson for presentation to foreign ambassadors concluding their service in the United States. The two-ounce gold format represents the premium tier of the modern restrike program, produced in very limited quantities for serious collectors and institutions. The obverse portrait of Washington and reverse Great Seal reproduce the original dies with faithful accuracy.

Rarity Notes

Two-ounce gold, extremely limited U.S. Mint production. The most expensive format in the modern Diplomatic Medal series. Very few examples struck.
