Description
This one-ounce gold Washington Diplomatic Medal, produced circa 2013, continues a tradition dating to 1792 when the United States Mint struck its first official medals. The Washington Diplomatic Medal was among the earliest products of the young mint, designed to present to foreign dignitaries and ambassadors as a symbol of American sovereignty. This modern gold version faithfully reproduces the original design featuring George Washington's portrait on the obverse and the Great Seal of the United States on the reverse. The one-ounce gold format makes this both a numismatic collectible and a precious metal investment piece. The U.S. Mint has periodically restruck the Washington Diplomatic Medal in various sizes and metals for collector sales, maintaining the connection to one of America's oldest medallic traditions.
Rarity Notes
