Description
The 2012 (P) Proof Star-Spangled Banner Dollar is a proof dollar struck at the Philadelphia Mint, part of the Modern Commemorative Dollars (1982-Date) series. The Philadelphia Mint struck 168,981 proof Star-Spangled Banner dollars dated 2012. The obverse shows Liberty waving the 15-star flag before Fort McHenry and the reverse a modern flag. A modern issue from an era of rotating coin designs, collector-focused programs, and renewed interest in numismatic artistry. As a proof issue, this coin was struck multiple times on specially prepared polished planchets using polished dies, producing mirror-like fields and frosted design elements. Struck in 90% silver, 10% copper, weighing 26.73 grams, 38.1 mm in diameter, with a reeded edge. Cataloged as PCGS #511494.
