Description
The 2011 (D) United States Army Commemorative Half Dollar is a commemorative half dollar struck at the Denver Mint. The Denver Mint struck 39,442 uncirculated United States Army half dollars dated 2011. Part of the U.S. Army commemorative three-coin program, this half dollar highlights the Army's often-overlooked peacetime roles including civil engineering, flood control, and rocket development. The obverse features a split scene showing peacetime Army service: surveying, building a flood wall, and a Redstone Arsenal rocket, while the reverse displays a Continental Army soldier with musket, 13 stars, and 'First in Service to the Nation'. Designed by Donna Weaver/Thomas Cleveland. Struck in copper-nickel, weighing 11.34 grams, 30.6 mm in diameter, with a reeded edge. Cataloged as PCGS #506161.
