Description
The 2011 (D) United States Army Commemorative Half Dollar is a commemorative half dollar struck at the Denver Mint. With a mintage of 39,442, this is a scarce commemorative issue. Army commemorative three-coin program, this half dollar highlights the Army's often-overlooked peacetime roles including civil engineering, flood control, and rocket development. The obverse features a split scene showing peacetime Army service: surveying, building a flood wall, and a Redstone Arsenal rocket, while the reverse displays a Continental Army soldier with musket, 13 stars, and 'First in Service to the Nation'.
