Description
The 2009 (S) Proof Puerto Rico Silver Quarter is a proof quarter struck at the San Francisco Mint, part of the DC & US Territories Quarters 2009 series. Total mintage reached 996,548. The obverse features George Washington facing left, based on a 1786 bust by Jean-Antoine Houdon, while the reverse displays unique designs representing the District of Columbia and five U.S. territories: Puerto Rico, Guam, American Samoa, U.S. Virgin Islands, and Northern Mariana Islands. Designed by Joseph Menna. Struck in 90% silver, 10% copper, weighing 6.3 grams, 24.3 mm in diameter, with a reeded edge. Cataloged as PCGS #406571. The 2009 DC & US Territories Quarters extended the State Quarters Program to include the District of Columbia and five U.S. Completes the State Quarters concept by including all inhabited U.S. jurisdictions. Six designs were released in 2009.
