The 2009 Louis Braille Bicentennial Commemorative Dollar is a United States dollar from the Modern Commemorative Dollars (1982-Date) series. In 2009, the Philadelphia Mint struck 221,709 of these dollars, uncirculated and proof together, by the Mint's figures. The obverse shows Louis Braille and the reverse a child reading a book in braille. A modern issue from an era of rotating coin designs, collector-focused programs, and renewed interest in numismatic artistry. Struck in 90% silver, 10% copper, weighing 26.73 grams, 38.1 mm in diameter, with a reeded edge. Designed by Joel Iskowitz/Susan Gamble.
