Description

The 2009 (D) Satin Finish Presidential Dollar - Zachary Taylor, Position B is a special strike dollar struck at the Denver Mint, part of the Presidential Dollars 2007 to Date series. The U.S. Mint produced 784,614 examples, making this the lowest mintage among 40 mint variants, representing only less than 1% of total production. The obverse features rotating portraits of each U.S. president in order of service, released four per year and the reverse displays the Statue of Liberty. The twelfth President (1849–1850), Zachary Taylor was a career military officer and hero of the Mexican-American War who had never held political office or even voted before his election. He died just 16 months into his term. William Henry Harrison, Tyler, Polk, and Taylor were released. "In God We Trust" moved from the edge to the obverse, ending the "Godless Dollar" controversy. Production remained high for circulation. Struck at the Denver Mint, established in 1906 from an earlier assay office that processed Colorado gold rush metal. Auction record: $84 SP69 12-27-2016 Heritage Auctions. Struck in 77% copper, 12% zinc, 1% other over a pure copper core, weighing 8.1 grams, 26.5 mm in diameter, with a lettered edge. Cataloged as PCGS #409735.
