Description

The 2006 (D) Nebraska State Quarter was struck at the Denver Mint as a quarter in the State Quarters 1999-2008 series. The Denver Mint struck 273,000,000 Nebraska quarters dated 2006. The obverse features George Washington facing left, based on a 1786 bust by Jean-Antoine Houdon and the reverse displays unique designs representing each of the 50 U.S. states, released in the order the states ratified the Constitution or joined the Union. The reverse depicts an ox-drawn covered wagon with Chimney Rock rising in the background. Chimney Rock served as the most recognized landmark for hundreds of thousands of emigrants traveling the Oregon, California, and Mormon Trails. The 2006 quarters honored, in release order, Nevada, Nebraska, Colorado, North Dakota, and South Dakota. Coined at Denver's facility, which transitioned from processing Colorado gold rush metal to full-scale coin production in 1906.
