Description
The 2002 (P) Sacagawea Dollar is a dollar produced at the Philadelphia Mint as part of the Sacagawea & Native American Dollars 2000 to Date series. The U.S. Mint produced 3.9 million examples, making this the higher-mintage of the two mint variants, representing 51% of production. The obverse features Sacagawea carrying her infant son Jean Baptiste Crapeau on her back and the reverse displays rotating designs honoring Native American contributions to the United States. The reverse depicts a soaring bald eagle encircled by 17 stars. This original Sacagawea dollar design was used from 2000 through 2008. No dollars released for circulation. Production was limited to numismatic products (proofs and mint sets). Struck at the original U.S. Mint facility, in continuous operation since 1792. Estimated market value ranges from $1 to $6 depending on grade and condition. Struck in 88.5% copper, 6% zinc, 3.5% manganese and 2% nickel, weighing 8.1 grams, 26.5 mm in diameter, with a plain edge. Cataloged as PCGS #15002.
