Description

The 2001 (P) U.S. Capitol Visitor Center Commemorative Half Dollar is a cent produced at the Philadelphia Mint as part of the Modern Commemorative Half Dollars (1982-Date) series. The U.S. Mint produced 99,157 examples. The obverse features designs varying by commemorative issue, while the reverse displays designs varying by commemorative issue. Designed by Dean McMullen/Alex Shagin and Marcel Jovine. Struck in 75% copper, 25% nickel over a pure copper center, weighing 11.34 grams, 30.6 mm in diameter, with a reeded edge. Cataloged as PCGS #9790. Modern commemorative half dollars are struck in copper-nickel clad composition and honor American events and figures. Lower mintages compared to circulating issues.
