Description

Rhode Island's State Quarter reverse — depicting a vintage sailboat gliding through Narragansett Bay with the Pell Bridge visible in the background — suffered a die rim failure that produced this cud error, a reverse cud for the 2001-P Rhode Island issue. Cataloged as CU-25c-2001P-03R(RI) by Cuds on Coins, the "R" suffix confirms the break occurred on the reverse die, meaning the cud appears on the same side as Daniel Carr's sailboat design. A rim cud represents the loss of part of the die's rim gutter: on the coin it appears as a raised interruption in the design rim that tracks the rim's course.
