Description
Cataloged as CU-25c-2001P-02R(RI), this rim cud appears on the 2001 Philadelphia Rhode Island State Quarter — honoring the smallest state. A rim cud represents the loss of part of the die's rim gutter: on the coin it appears as a raised interruption in the design rim that tracks the rim's course. The RI designation identifies the specific State Quarter design, as the 50 State Quarters Program issued five new reverses each year from 1999 through 2008. Rhode Island's reverse depicts a vintage sailboat gliding through Narragansett Bay with the Pell Bridge in the background, designed by Daniel Carr.
