Kentucky was the 15th state honored in the State Quarters program, with a reverse design by T. James Ferrell depicting a thoroughbred racehorse behind a fence with the Federal Hill mansion (the inspiration for "My Old Kentucky Home") in the background. Philadelphia struck approximately 353 million Kentucky quarters in 2001, a production volume reflecting the enormous collector demand that characterized the program's early years, when the novelty of five new reverse designs annually drove both collecting and hoarding.
