Description
The 1999 (P) Proof Susan B. Anthony Dollar is a proof dollar struck at the Philadelphia Mint, part of the Susan B. Anthony Dollars 1979-1999 series. With a mintage of 740,000, this is an extremely rare issue — the lowest mintage among 3 mint variants, representing only 2% of total production. The obverse features Susan B. Anthony facing right, the first woman depicted on a U.S. circulating coin and the reverse displays an eagle landing on the moon, adapted from the Apollo 11 mission patch. Briefly revived to meet demand for dollar coins in transit and vending while the Sacagawea Dollar was being designed. The 1999-P Wide Rim variety is a sought-after modern rarity. As a proof issue, this coin was struck multiple times on specially prepared polished planchets using polished dies, producing mirror-like fields and frosted design elements prized by collectors. Struck at the original U.S. Mint facility, in continuous operation since 1792. Estimated market value is approximately $30. Struck in 75% copper, 25% nickel over a pure copper center, weighing 8.1 grams, 26.5 mm in diameter, with a reeded edge. Cataloged as PCGS #99596.
