Description

The 1998 (S) Crispus Attucks Dollar is a dollar produced at the San Francisco Mint as part of the Modern Commemorative Dollars (1982-Date) series. With a mintage of 37,210, this is a scarce issue — the lower-mintage of the two mint variants. The obverse features designs varying by commemorative issue, authorized by Congress to honor significant American events, people, and institutions and the reverse displays designs varying by commemorative issue. Struck after the transition from silver to clad coinage, as the Mint adapted to modern production methods and record-breaking mintages. Struck at the San Francisco Mint, established during the California Gold Rush and now primarily producing proof and collector coins. Auction record: $1,064 MS70 11-11-2003 Heritage Auctions. Struck in 90% silver, 10% copper, weighing 26.73 grams, 38.1 mm in diameter, with a reeded edge. Cataloged as PCGS #9769.
