The 1998 American Eagle Twenty Five Dollar Platinum is a United States platinum coin from the American Eagle Twenty Five Dollar Platinum 1997 to Date series — the second year of the series. In 1998 the Mint sold 38,887 bullion coins struck at Philadelphia and 14,873 proofs struck at West Point. The obverse features the Statue of Liberty facing forward; the bullion reverse displays an eagle soaring over the sunrise, and the proof reverse an eagle flying over a New England harbor town with a lighthouse under a full moon. Struck in 99.95% platinum, weighing 7.78 grams, 22 mm in diameter, with a reeded edge. Designed by John M. Mercanti (obverse) and Thomas D. Rogers Sr. (bullion reverse), with the proof reverse also by Thomas D. Rogers Sr.
