In 1998, coins were struck at the Philadelphia and West Point Mints with a combined mintage of 53,760. This represents the highest annual mintage in the entire series, above the series median of 31,356. The obverse features the Statue of Liberty facing forward and the reverse displays an eagle soaring over the sunrise. Struck after the transition from silver to clad coinage, as the Mint adapted to modern production methods and record-breaking mintages.
