The 1999 American Eagle Twenty Five Dollar Platinum is a United States platinum coin from the American Eagle Twenty Five Dollar Platinum 1997 to Date series. In 1999 the Mint sold 39,734 bullion coins struck at Philadelphia and 13,507 proofs struck at West Point. The obverse features the Statue of Liberty facing forward; the bullion reverse displays an eagle soaring over the sunrise, and the proof reverse an eagle flying over Southeastern wetlands, with an alligator in the swamp below. Struck in 99.95% platinum, weighing 7.78 grams, 22 mm in diameter, with a reeded edge. Designed by John M. Mercanti (obverse) and Thomas D. Rogers Sr. (bullion reverse), with the proof reverse by Al Maletsky.
