Description
Produced at the San Francisco Mint, the 1997 (S) Jackie Robinson Dollar is part of the Modern Commemorative Dollars (1982-Date) series. With a mintage of 30,180, this is a scarce issue — the lower-mintage of the two mint variants. The obverse features designs varying by commemorative issue, authorized by Congress to honor significant American events, people, and institutions and the reverse displays designs varying by commemorative issue. Struck after the transition from silver to clad coinage, as the Mint adapted to modern production methods and record-breaking mintages. Coined at the San Francisco Mint, which transitioned from Gold Rush-era production to its modern role producing proof and collector issues. Auction record: $4,600 MS67 01-09-2008 Heritage Auctions.
