1996 (P) Lincoln Memorial Cent - Radical MAD Die Clash MDC-1C-1996-01
Error
Description
MDC-1c-1996-01 is a radical misaligned (MAD) die clash on a 1996-P Lincoln Memorial cent, cataloged by Mad Die Clashes. The clash may come from a die that was both pivoted and tilted (vertically misaligned). In that case the obverse (hammer) die would have pivoted clockwise relative to the reverse die, most likely about a point close to the die face's edge somewhere from 1:00 to 5:00; MDC notes that a die cannot pivot much on its own, so the whole die assembly must pivot. The only visible marks lie between the bust's base and the design rim, where the tops of ST from STATES show with the edge of the die's field. An overlay by BJ Neff shows another possibility: a hammer die misaligned both horizontally and vertically and tilted down toward 7:00.
