Description

The 1995 (D) Atlanta Centennial Olympic Games Track & Field Dollar is a cent minted at the Denver Mint, within the Modern Commemorative Dollars (1982-Date) series. With a mintage of 24,796, this is a scarce issue β€” the scarcer of two mint variants, with 15% of total production. The obverse features designs varying by commemorative issue, authorized by Congress to honor significant American events, people, and institutions and the reverse displays designs varying by commemorative issue. Struck after the transition from silver to clad coinage, as the Mint adapted to modern production methods and record-breaking mintages. The Denver Mint, which grew from an 1860s gold rush assay office, has served as a major production facility since 1906. Auction record: $460 MS70 06-02-2010 Heritage Auctions. Struck in 90% silver, 10% copper, weighing 26.73 grams, 38.1 mm in diameter, with a reeded edge. Cataloged as PCGS #9720.
