Description
The 1992 (P) Proof Columbus Dollar is a proof dollar struck at the Philadelphia Mint, part of the Modern Commemorative Dollars (1982-Date) series. The Philadelphia Mint struck 385,241 proof Christopher Columbus Quincentenary dollars dated 1992. The obverse shows Columbus with a globe and ships and the reverse one of his ships beside the space shuttle Discovery. As a proof issue, this coin was struck multiple times on specially prepared polished planchets using polished dies, producing mirror-like fields and frosted design elements. Struck in 90% silver, 10% copper, weighing 26.73 grams, 38.1 mm in diameter, with a reeded edge. Cataloged as PCGS #9665.
