Description

The 1988 (S) Proof Olympic Dollar is a proof dollar struck at the San Francisco Mint, part of the Modern Commemorative Dollars (1982-Date) series. The San Francisco Mint struck 1,359,366 proof Seoul Olympiad dollars dated 1988. The obverse shows the torch of the Statue of Liberty and the Olympic torch joined in one flame and the reverse the U.S. Olympic Committee emblem. As a proof issue, this coin was struck multiple times on specially prepared polished planchets using polished dies, producing mirror-like fields and frosted design elements. Struck at the San Francisco Mint, established during the California Gold Rush and now primarily producing proof and collector coins. Struck in 90% silver, 10% copper, weighing 26.73 grams, 38.1 mm in diameter, with a reeded edge. Cataloged as PCGS #9629.
