Description
The 1987 (P) Constitution Dollar is a commemorative dollar struck at the Philadelphia Mint. The U.S. Mint produced 451,629 examples. Authorized to celebrate the 200th anniversary of the signing of the United States Constitution in 1787, this dollar was part of a two-coin program including a $5 gold piece. The obverse features a large quill pen laid across a sheaf of parchment with 'We the People' in script, surrounded by thirteen stars, while the reverse displays a cross-section of Americans in diverse garb, representing the broad cultural and social spectrum of the nation. Designed by Patricia Lewis Verani. Struck in 90% silver, 10% copper, weighing 26.73 grams, 38.1 mm in diameter, with a reeded edge. Cataloged as PCGS #9624. The Constitution dollar's elegant quill-and-parchment design is widely regarded as one of the most attractive modern commemorative designs, and it was one of the best-selling silver commemoratives of the 1980s.
