Description
The 1986 (P) Statue Of Liberty Dollar is a commemorative dollar struck at the Philadelphia Mint. Total mintage reached 723,635. Part of a three-coin program celebrating the 100th anniversary of the Statue of Liberty's dedication in 1886, this silver dollar was authorized by Congress (Public Law 99-61). The obverse features the full Statue of Liberty with the Registry Room of Ellis Island in the background, while the reverse displays Liberty's torch rising above an excerpt from Emma Lazarus's poem: 'Give me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses yearning to breathe free'. Designed by John M. Mercanti/Mathew Peloso. Struck in 90% silver, 10% copper, weighing 26.73 grams, 38.1 mm in diameter, with a reeded edge. Cataloged as PCGS #9620. The 1986 Statue of Liberty dollar remains one of the most popular modern commemoratives, with combined proof and uncirculated sales exceeding 6 million coins.
