Second documented retained cud for the 1983 Philadelphia Mint Washington Quarter, this variety preserves a reverse die rim fracture where the broken section was held in place in the die rather than falling out to form a full cud. The "R" suffix identifies this as a reverse die break, affecting the heraldic eagle design that appeared on Washington Quarters from 1932 through 1998.
