1982 (P) Lincoln Memorial Cent - Zinc Large Date - CU-1C-1982-85 Rim Cud
Error
Description
CU-1C-1982-85 is a rim cud on the Zinc Large Date subtype. Eighty-five confirmed unique die rim failures for a single date and mint — each individually verified through positional comparison against every preceding entry — represents thousands of collective hours invested by the searchers, submitters, and verifiers who sustain the Cuds on Coins registry. As a rim cud, this entry records the loss of part of the die's rim gutter, which appears on the coin as a raised interruption in the design rim that tracks the rim's course. The Zinc Large Date cent at 2.5 grams, with its copper-plated zinc core and wider date numerals, belongs to the second half of Philadelphia's 1982 production — the period after the Mint committed fully to the new lighter planchet specification that would define the Lincoln cent for decades to come.
