Description

Twelfth in the Cuds on Coins census for the 1982 Philadelphia Lincoln Memorial cent, CU-1C-1982-12 is classified as a rim cud on the Zinc Large Date subtype. Unlike a standard cud, a rim cud represents the loss of part of the die's rim gutter: on the coin it appears as a raised interruption in the design rim that tracks the rim's course. The Zinc Large Date designation places this coin squarely within the post-transition composition stream: copper-plated zinc planchets weighing 2.5 grams, struck after the historic mid-1982 changeover from the traditional 95% copper, 5% zinc bronze alloy that had been standard since 1962.
