CU-1c-1982-82 (SD) Cud
Error
Description
Following immediately after CU-81 in the Small Date sequence, CU-1c-1982-82(SD) is cross-referenced to JCc-82_20 and records another interior cud on the 1982 Philadelphia Lincoln Memorial cent struck on the 2.5-gram copper-plated zinc planchet with the compact small date numerals. The consecutive JCc numbers — _19 for CU-81 and _20 for CU-82 — suggest these two Small Date cuds were documented in close succession within the JCc attribution system, potentially from specimens submitted around the same time or discovered in proximity during a focused survey of 1982 Small Date die failures. At census number eighty-two, the catalog has reached exceptional depth for any single-year denomination, and Small Date entries at this level represent some of the scarcest subtype-specific documentation in the entire 1982 Philadelphia census. The copper-plated zinc planchet at 2.5 grams fills the fractured die void with layered material, and the compact date numerals — with their tightly spaced digits and shorter "9" — serve as the primary visual diagnostic separating this entry from any Large Date cud at a comparable census position. The dual JCc-82_20 cross-reference provides independent attribution outside the Cuds on Coins framework. Attribution by Cuds on Coins.
