Description
The 1980 (P) Jefferson Nickel, struck at the Philadelphia Mint, is part of the Jefferson Nickels Original Design 1938-2003 collection. The U.S. Mint produced 593.0 million examples, making this the higher-mintage of the two mint variants, representing 54% of production. The obverse features Thomas Jefferson facing left and the reverse displays Monticello, Thomas Jefferson's Virginia estate. Philadelphia began using the "P" mint mark on nickels for the first time, ending the tradition of unmarked Philadelphia coins for this denomination. The Philadelphia Mint, America's oldest coin-making facility, has struck coins continuously since 1792. Estimated market value ranges from $0 to $5 depending on grade and condition.
