Description
Reed-Brenner 1505 is the second entry in the RB-1500 fine-resolution cluster, testing a composition one increment above RB-1500. Within this four-piece cluster, each five-unit step represents a precisely controlled variation in alloy chemistry, with the cumulative data from all four compositions (1500, 1505, 1510, 1515) providing a detailed performance profile across a narrow but important compositional range. The RB-1500 cluster is notable in the Gould program because it includes the only entry — RB-1515 — for which both a business-strike (MS) and a proof (PF) version were produced. The existence of proof strikings from the RB-1515 composition (but not from 1500, 1505, or 1510) indicates that the Mint or Gould identified RB-1515 as the most promising composition in this range and produced proof examples to demonstrate the alloy's capacity for premium-finish coinage.
Rarity Notes
R-7. Very rare. NGC census records an image for this piece.
