Description

Reed-Brenner 1335 is the first entry in a closely spaced cluster of Gould dollar patterns numbered RB-1335 through RB-1370. This group of four compositions (1335, 1350, 1355, 1360) plus the nearby RB-1370 represents another focused area of Gould's metallurgical research, analogous to the RB-1050/1055/1060 cluster but starting from a different base alloy. The RB-1300 series alloys appear to represent a second major family of compositions in the Gould program, distinct from both the opening RB-1000 group and the higher-numbered RB-1400 and RB-1500 series. The close spacing within the 1335-1370 range indicates systematic variation of a promising base composition, with each alloy tested for its full range of physical and electromagnetic properties. Gould submitted detailed technical reports on each composition to the Mint, documenting alloy chemistry, mechanical properties, corrosion resistance test results, and projected production costs.

Rarity Notes
