Description

This undated U.S. Marine Corps Bicentennial medal in three-inch bronze format commemorates the 200th anniversary of the Marines, established November 10, 1775. The undated variant complements the dated 1975 version (PCGS #508458) within the military service bicentennial medal set. The three-inch bronze format provides the same display presence as the Army, Navy, and Coast Guard companion pieces, creating a uniform set for collectors of military medals. The Marine Corps traces its origins to a resolution of the Continental Congress authorizing two battalions of Marines "good seamen, or so acquainted with maritime affairs as to be able to serve to advantage by sea." From these modest beginnings, the Corps grew into a force renowned for its amphibious warfare capability, esprit de corps, and the legendary toughness of its personnel. The bicentennial medal captures two centuries of Marine Corps history from Tun Tavern in Philadelphia, where the first Marines were recruited, through the modern expeditionary force.

Rarity Notes
