Description

This undated U.S. Coast Guard Bicentennial medal in three-inch bronze format commemorates the 200th anniversary of the Coast Guard's predecessor, the Revenue Cutter Service, established in 1790. The three-inch format matches the companion military service bicentennial medals for the Army, Marines, and Navy. The undated designation distinguishes this from the dated 1990 version (PCGS #508456) while commemorating the same milestone. The Coast Guard's bicentennial celebration honored an institution that grew from a small fleet of revenue cutters enforcing tariff laws to a multimission maritime service responsible for search and rescue, environmental protection, port security, and law enforcement. Alexander Hamilton created the Revenue Cutter Service as Secretary of the Treasury, and the Coast Guard remained under Treasury Department authority until its transfer to the Department of Homeland Security in 2003. The three-inch bronze provides a substantial commemorative suitable for institutional display.

Rarity Notes
