Description

The 1965 Lincoln Memorial Cent - SMS is a special strike cent struck at the Philadelphia Mint, part of the Lincoln Memorial Cents 1959-2008 series. With a mintage of 2.4 million, this is an extremely rare issue โ€” the scarcer of two mint variants, with less than 1% of total production. The obverse features Abraham Lincoln facing right and the reverse displays the Lincoln Memorial building in Washington, D.C.. Mint marks were removed from all U.S. coins under the Coinage Act of 1965. Special Mint Set cents replaced traditional proofs. Struck at the original U.S. Mint facility, in continuous operation since 1792. Auction record: $250 SP66BN 11-08-2020 eBay. Struck in 95% copper, 5% zinc, weighing 3.11 grams, 19 mm in diameter, with a plain edge. Cataloged as PCGS #3288.
