Description
The 1965 Lincoln Memorial Cent - SMS is a Special Mint Set (SMS) cent made by the San Francisco Assay Office, part of the Lincoln Memorial Cents 1959-2008 series. The San Francisco Assay Office struck 2,360,000 Special Mint Set cents dated 1965. The obverse features Abraham Lincoln facing right and the reverse displays the Lincoln Memorial building in Washington, D.C.. Mint marks were removed from all U.S. coins under the Coinage Act of 1965. Special Mint Set cents replaced traditional proofs. Auction record: $250 SP66BN 11-08-2020 eBay. Struck in 95% copper, 5% zinc, weighing 3.11 grams, 19.05 mm in diameter, with a plain edge. Cataloged as PCGS #3288.
