About This Coin
The 1964 Dime Patterns are dime-size test pieces made for the International Nickel Company (INCO) while the Treasury looked for an alloy to replace silver. They carry Gilroy Roberts's portrait of Paul D. Merica, a former president of INCO, and a view of the laboratory named for him, and were issued in sets with quarter and half dollar sizes (USPatterns.com). They are private pieces, numbered by Pollock (P-5333 to P-5338) and by Roger W. Burdette (RB-2000 group).
