Description
A nickel from the Denver Mint, the 1955 (D) Jefferson Nickel - D/S belongs to the Jefferson Nickels Original Design 1938-2003 series. The obverse features Thomas Jefferson facing left and the reverse displays Monticello, Thomas Jefferson's Virginia estate. The 1955-D/S RPM variety (D over S mintmark) is a popular collector item. San Francisco did not produce nickels for circulation. Denver's mint evolved from a frontier assay office into one of the nation's primary coin production facilities, opening in 1906.
