The 1953 Jefferson Nickel, struck at the Philadelphia Mint, is part of the Jefferson Nickels Original Design 1938-2003 collection. The Philadelphia Mint struck 46,644,000 nickels dated 1953. The obverse features Thomas Jefferson facing left and the reverse displays Monticello, Thomas Jefferson's Virginia estate. Philadelphia's mint — the nation's first — has produced coins without interruption since its founding in 1792. Estimated market value ranges from $0.05 to $25 depending on grade and condition.
