Description
The 1944 (S) Philippine Five Centavos is a five centavos coin minted at the San Francisco Mint, within the Philippines Five Centavos 1903-1945 series. The 1944 and 1945 five centavos were struck in the United States while Manila was occupied, in a new alloy that the Director of the Mint's reports call nickel-silver: 65 percent copper, 23 percent zinc and 12 percent nickel. Philadelphia struck 1944 coins without a mint mark; San Francisco struck 1944 and 1945 coins with an S. The design is the Commonwealth type of 1937. The Director of the Mint's report lists 14,040,000 pieces struck for the Philippines in calendar year 1944. PCGS number 90232.
