Description
The 1936-M Philippine Peso Roosevelt-Quezon was struck at the Manila Mint and carries an M mint mark on the reverse, to the left of the date. The Manila Mint struck two commemorative pesos in 1936 for the founding of the Commonwealth of the Philippines on November 15, 1935, both designed by Ambrosio Morales, with the Commonwealth arms on the reverse. They weigh 20 grams of 90 percent silver and measure 35 millimeters. The set sold slowly, and many unsold pieces were among the silver thrown into the sea off Corregidor in 1942; some recovered later are corroded. The recorded mintage is 10,000. This peso pairs Manuel L. Quezon with Franklin D. Roosevelt, then President of the United States, in overlapping profiles. Catalogue numbers: KM-177. PCGS number 90410.
