Description
The 1921 Proof Peace Dollar - Satin Finish is a proof dollar struck at the Philadelphia Mint, part of the Peace Dollars 1921-1935 series. A total of 8 is given for 1921 proof Peace dollars in all; how many have the satin finish is not recorded. The obverse features a youthful Liberty facing left wearing a radiate crown, designed after sculptor Anthony de Francisci's wife Teresa and the reverse displays a bald eagle perched on a rock above the word PEACE, with rays of sunlight. First year of the Peace Dollar, struck in high relief to commemorate the end of World War I. The Philadelphia Mint struck 1,006,473 Peace dollars in 1921. Struck as a proof with a satin finish rather than mirrored fields. Struck at the original U.S. Mint facility, in continuous operation since 1792. Estimated market value is approximately $202K. Struck in 90% silver, 10% copper, weighing 26.73 grams, 38.1 mm in diameter, with a reeded edge. Cataloged as PCGS #7382.
