Description
Produced at the Denver Mint, the 1917 (D) Standing Liberty Quarter - Type 2 is part of the Standing Liberty Quarters 1916-1930 series. With a mintage of 6.2 million, this is a less common issue — ranked 4th of 6 mint variants by mintage, with 16% of production. The obverse features Liberty standing in a gateway between two walls, holding an olive branch and a shield and the reverse displays an eagle in flight. Two major types exist: Type I (bare breast) and Type II (chain mail armor), both struck at all three mints. The Denver Mint, which grew from an 1860s gold rush assay office, has served as a major production facility since 1906. Estimated market value ranges from $49 to $387 depending on grade and condition. Struck in 90% silver, 10% copper, weighing 6.3 grams, 24.3 mm in diameter, with a reeded edge.
