Description
The 1917 (S) Standing Liberty Quarter - Type 2 is a quarter produced at the San Francisco Mint as part of the Standing Liberty Quarters 1916-1930 series. With a mintage of 5.6 million, this is a less common issue — ranked 3rd of 6 mint variants by mintage, with 15% of production. The obverse features Liberty standing in a gateway between two walls, holding an olive branch and a shield and the reverse displays an eagle in flight. Two major types exist: Type I (bare breast) and Type II (chain mail armor), both struck at all three mints. Struck at the San Francisco Mint, established during the California Gold Rush and now primarily producing proof and collector coins. Estimated market value ranges from $54 to $418 depending on grade and condition. Struck in 90% silver, 10% copper, weighing 6.3 grams, 24.3 mm in diameter, with a reeded edge.
