1912 (S) Lincoln Wheat Cent Rim Cud (Obverse 8:00–10:30, Multiple)

Description

Five separate rim cuds, one medium, one large and three small, sit along the obverse rim between 8:00 and 10:30 on this 1912 San Francisco Lincoln Wheat cent. A rim cud represents the loss of part of the die's rim gutter: on the coin it appears as a raised interruption in the design rim that tracks the rim's course. Several rim cuds on one die show that the rim failed at more than one point while the die stayed in service. San Francisco struck 4,431,000 cents in 1912. The coin was struck in bronze (95% copper, 5% tin and zinc), weighing 3.11 grams with a 19.05 mm diameter.
