Description
The 1908 Proof Philippine Peso is a proof peso from the Philippines Peso 1903-1945 series. The obverse features a female figure standing beside an anvil, holding a hammer and the reverse displays an eagle above a shield. Produced during the Progressive Era, when President Theodore Roosevelt championed a renaissance in American coin design that produced some of the most beautiful coins ever struck. As a proof issue, this coin was struck multiple times on specially prepared polished planchets using polished dies, producing mirror-like fields and frosted design elements prized by collectors. Auction record: $10,800 PR67 08-18-2024 Heritage Auctions. Struck in 90% silver, 10% copper, weighing 20 grams, 38 mm in diameter, with a reeded edge. Cataloged as PCGS #90406.
