Description

The undated version of the Lewis and Clark Government Building medal is HK-333, bronze with a plain edge and 35 mm across. Its obverse is close to that of HK-328, the two captains' busts with crossed rifle, oar and telescope beneath, but the date is left off, so the piece names the Lewis and Clark Centennial Exposition without giving the year 1905; the reverse still shows the U. S. Government Building with Portland, Oregon, below. Gilt bronze (HK-333a) and antiqued silver (HK-333b) versions exist, and the same undated obverse was paired with a Washington State Building reverse for HK-334. The fair, held in Portland in 1905, marked the hundredth anniversary of the expedition through the Louisiana Territory and the Oregon Country led by Captains Meriwether Lewis and William Clark.
